Concrete Driveway and Patio Contractor in Encanto, Phoenix, AZ
Historic Encanto homes deserve concrete that fits their era.
Phoenix · River and wash alluvium
Encanto is the central Phoenix village around Encanto Park, and it includes historic districts such as Encanto-Palmcroft. Homes here date from the 1920s through the 1950s and sit on mature, irrigated lots with big trees and established gardens. Owners usually want new concrete to look like it belongs, so plain broom finishes, period-friendly colors and careful edges matter as much as the base underneath.

The soil is river and wash alluvium, and decades of irrigation keep it wetter than open ground. Silt and sand like this settle when water runs under a slab, so we compact the base in lifts, keep irrigation lines and runoff out from under the concrete and slope everything away from the house. Street-facing changes in a historic district can need review, and the City of Phoenix handles permits. Call (602) 773-1313 for a free estimate.
River and wash alluvium
Layered silt, sand and gravel laid down by the Salt River and the desert washes, across the flood plains and alluvial fans of the central and west Valley.
Most river and wash soil drains well and swells very little. Its problem is settlement: loose, dry silt and sand that was never compacted packs down when it gets wet or carries a load, so slabs sink at corners and along tire lines. Close to a wash, monsoon runoff can also cut away the soil at the edge of a slab.
Compaction done in lifts at the right moisture, with loose or soft soil dug out and replaced, a thicker section anywhere a truck, trailer or RV will park, and grading that keeps runoff off the slab and out from under it. Washes and drainage easements stay open.
What fails here first
- Corners or joints sunk below the next panel
- Ruts or cracks along the tire lines of a driveway
- Gaps opening under the edge of a slab
- Soil washed out along an edge after a monsoon storm
