Concrete Driveway Contractor in Encanto, Phoenix, AZ

Driveways for Encanto's historic homes, built to last another century.

Phoenix · River and wash alluvium

Encanto is the central Phoenix village around Encanto Park, with historic districts like Encanto-Palmcroft where homes from the 1920s to the 1950s sit on mature, irrigated lots. Driveways here are often narrow, sometimes two ribbon strips with grass between, leading back to a detached garage. Owners want them rebuilt in a way that suits the house: a period look, careful work around old trees and a finish that doesn't shout. We do tear-outs, ribbon drives, widening where it fits and colored or exposed-aggregate finishes.

What Encanto driveways need

The soil is river and wash alluvium, sand and silt laid down long ago. It drains well, but these lots have been irrigated for decades, and drives poured on loose soil have settled and cracked as that ground stayed wet under them. We remove soft soil, compact new base in lifts, set rebar on chairs and slope the slab so irrigation and roof water run off and away from the old foundation. Large roots get handled before any base goes in.

Encanto is in the City of Phoenix, so the apron at the street is built to city standards, 6 inches thick, usually under a city permit. Historic districts can need preservation review for work facing the street, and we prepare what that review asks for. Tight lots, detached garages at the back and old trees shape access, and we plan the truck route and any pumping around them at the free on-site estimate. Call (602) 773-1313 for a printed quote.

What’s included

Every Encanto driveway we pour starts with the ground under it, river and wash alluvium here, and the same list of work goes into the quote:

  • New concrete driveways
  • Driveway replacement and tear-out
  • Extensions, widening and side parking
  • RV and trailer parking pads
  • Stamped, colored and exposed-aggregate finishes
  • Aprons at the street, with the city permit where one is needed
  • Caliche, fill and soil checked before forming
  • Compacted aggregate base, deeper where you park heavy
  • Slope that sends water away from the garage
  • Control joints laid out before the pour
  • A pour timed and cured for the heat
The ground under Encanto

River and wash alluvium

Layered silt, sand and gravel laid down by the Salt River and the desert washes, across the flood plains and alluvial fans of the central and west Valley.

Compaction done in lifts at the right moisture, with loose or soft soil dug out and replaced, a thicker section anywhere a truck, trailer or RV will park, and grading that keeps runoff off the slab and out from under it. Washes and drainage easements stay open.

What fails here first

  • Corners or joints sunk below the next panel
  • Ruts or cracks along the tire lines of a driveway
  • Gaps opening under the edge of a slab
  • Soil washed out along an edge after a monsoon storm
