Concrete Driveway and Patio Contractor in Ahwatukee Foothills, Phoenix, AZ

Thirty-year-old Ahwatukee concrete, replaced with care.

Phoenix · River and wash alluvium

Ahwatukee is the part of Phoenix on the south side of South Mountain, built mostly from the late 1980s through the 1990s. That makes much of the concrete here thirty years old or more. Driveways have settled at the garage, patios have cracked across the middle, and plenty of homeowners want to replace the original with something bigger and better finished.

About Ahwatukee Foothills

Working in Ahwatukee Foothills

Ahwatukee is the part of Phoenix on the south side of South Mountain, built mostly from the late 1980s through the 1990s. The Ahwatukee Board of Management, registered with the City as an HOA, covers part of it.

The Ahwatukee Board of Management, registered with the City as an HOA, covers part of the area, and other neighborhoods have their own associations. We prepare the layout, finish and color your review asks for. Under the yards is river and wash alluvium that settles when wet if never compacted, so we compact in lifts. The City of Phoenix permits the apron work. Call (602) 773-1313.

The ground under Ahwatukee Foothills

River and wash alluvium

Layered silt, sand and gravel laid down by the Salt River and the desert washes, across the flood plains and alluvial fans of the central and west Valley.

Most river and wash soil drains well and swells very little. Its problem is settlement: loose, dry silt and sand that was never compacted packs down when it gets wet or carries a load, so slabs sink at corners and along tire lines. Close to a wash, monsoon runoff can also cut away the soil at the edge of a slab.

How we build in Ahwatukee Foothills

Compaction done in lifts at the right moisture, with loose or soft soil dug out and replaced, a thicker section anywhere a truck, trailer or RV will park, and grading that keeps runoff off the slab and out from under it. Washes and drainage easements stay open.

What fails here first

  • Corners or joints sunk below the next panel
  • Ruts or cracks along the tire lines of a driveway
  • Gaps opening under the edge of a slab
  • Soil washed out along an edge after a monsoon storm
