Concrete Driveway and Patio Contractor in Laveen, Phoenix, AZ

Laveen's 2000s homes are ready for their first concrete upgrade.

Phoenix · River and wash alluvium

Laveen grew fast in the 2000s. Half its homes were built between 2004 and 2007, on flat ground west of South Mountain. Most came with a two-car driveway and a small slab out back, and a lot of families have outgrown both. The common calls here are a wider driveway, an RV or side parking pad, and a backyard patio big enough for a table, a grill and some shade.

About Laveen

Working in Laveen

Laveen grew fast in the 2000s, with half its homes built between 2004 and 2007, on flat ground west of South Mountain.

The ground is river and wash alluvium, silt and sand that settles when wet if nobody compacted it during the building boom. We compact in lifts and thicken any section that carries a truck or trailer. Many Laveen subdivisions have HOA design review, and we prepare the layout and finish for it. The City of Phoenix permits the apron work. Call (602) 773-1313.

The ground under Laveen

River and wash alluvium

Layered silt, sand and gravel laid down by the Salt River and the desert washes, across the flood plains and alluvial fans of the central and west Valley.

Most river and wash soil drains well and swells very little. Its problem is settlement: loose, dry silt and sand that was never compacted packs down when it gets wet or carries a load, so slabs sink at corners and along tire lines. Close to a wash, monsoon runoff can also cut away the soil at the edge of a slab.

How we build in Laveen

Compaction done in lifts at the right moisture, with loose or soft soil dug out and replaced, a thicker section anywhere a truck, trailer or RV will park, and grading that keeps runoff off the slab and out from under it. Washes and drainage easements stay open.

What fails here first

  • Corners or joints sunk below the next panel
  • Ruts or cracks along the tire lines of a driveway
  • Gaps opening under the edge of a slab
  • Soil washed out along an edge after a monsoon storm

Laveen questions

Straight answers

Sam The Concrete Man North Phoenix repairs cracked driveways in Laveen, most of them poured during the fast building years of the mid-2000s. When subdivisions go in quickly, base compaction on layered river soil can vary, and the drive cracks or sinks where it was weakest. The free estimate says whether the slab needs crack sealing, leveling of a panel that dropped in one piece, or replacement of panels to the nearest joints on a fresh base.
