Concrete Driveway and Patio Contractor in South Mountain, Phoenix, AZ
From the Salt River to the mountain, slabs on a solid base.
Phoenix · River and wash alluvium
South Mountain Village runs from the Salt River down to South Mountain Park. The older neighborhoods sit to the north, closer to the river, and newer subdivisions climb toward the mountain. One street might need a sixty-year-old driveway torn out; a few miles south, a homeowner wants a stamped patio behind a house that's barely broken in. We see both kinds of job every month.
Working in South Mountain
South Mountain Village runs from the Salt River down to South Mountain Park, with older neighborhoods to the north and newer subdivisions toward the mountain.
Much of the village sits on river and wash alluvium, silt and sand that drains well and settles if it was never compacted. We compact in lifts and keep runoff off the slab and out from under it. In the City of Phoenix, the driveway apron in the right-of-way is built to city standards, 6 inches thick, usually under a city permit. Call (602) 773-1313 for a free estimate.
River and wash alluvium
Layered silt, sand and gravel laid down by the Salt River and the desert washes, across the flood plains and alluvial fans of the central and west Valley.
Most river and wash soil drains well and swells very little. Its problem is settlement: loose, dry silt and sand that was never compacted packs down when it gets wet or carries a load, so slabs sink at corners and along tire lines. Close to a wash, monsoon runoff can also cut away the soil at the edge of a slab.
Compaction done in lifts at the right moisture, with loose or soft soil dug out and replaced, a thicker section anywhere a truck, trailer or RV will park, and grading that keeps runoff off the slab and out from under it. Washes and drainage easements stay open.
