Concrete Patio Contractor in Deer Valley, Phoenix, AZ
From 1980s backyards to brand-new north lots, Deer Valley patios done right.
Phoenix · Caliche desert floor
Deer Valley Village covers a big piece of north-west Phoenix, so the patios we see depend on which end you live on. In the older parts, homes from the 1980s and 1990s often have a builder slab that has cracked across the middle or pulled away from the back wall. Farther north, in the newer subdivisions, yards are still fresh and owners are adding their first real patio, usually an extension of the covered area and a spot for a table. Either way the job starts with a tape measure and a talk about how you use the yard.

The village sits mostly on the caliche desert floor. Caliche is a cemented layer that can show up a few inches down or a few feet down, and since it holds water, the soil sitting on it softens after irrigation. A patio poured on that soft soil settles eventually. We dig down to firm ground, break out any caliche high enough to make a hard spot, and replace it with compacted aggregate base. Rebar on chairs and planned control joints keep the slab together as it ages.
Deer Valley is part of the City of Phoenix, so the city handles any permit your patio or shade structure needs, and if your neighborhood has an HOA, we prepare what its review asks for. Some lots here have RV gates or wide side yards, which makes access easy, while others need a pump over the wall. Summer work goes in during the cool morning hours, and monsoon pours wait for a clear forecast. For a free on-site estimate and a printed quote, call (602) 773-1313.
What’s included
A Deer Valley patio gets planned around the yard, the shade and where storm water goes on caliche desert floor, and the quote spells out each part:
- New patios and patio extensions
- Stamped, colored and exposed-aggregate finishes
- Pergola and shade-structure pads, with footers
- Fire-pit, grill and outdoor-kitchen slabs
- Step pads and paths to the patio
- Patio replacement and resurfacing
- Slope away from the house
- Compacted base for caliche or clay
- Joint layout that fits the design
- Color that holds up in the sun
- A UV-resistant sealer, renewed every few years
Caliche desert floor
Gravelly desert soil on the fans and terraces of the Valley floor, often with a layer of caliche, soil cemented hard by calcium carbonate or silica, anywhere from a few inches to a few feet down.
Dig to firm ground, break out caliche that sits high in the base and haul it off the site, bring in aggregate base compacted in lifts, and slope the slab and the grade so roof and sprinkler water run away from it and off the hardpan.
What fails here first
- Slabs sunk or cracked beside sprinkler beds and downspouts
- Water standing along an edge for days after a storm
- Corners and edges dropped below the next panel
- Cracks that keep opening over the same low spot
