Concrete Driveway Contractor in Deer Valley, Phoenix, AZ

Deer Valley driveways, from 1980s originals to new-build extensions.

Phoenix · Caliche desert floor

Deer Valley Village covers a big piece of north-west Phoenix, and its driveways come in two ages. The older streets have homes mostly from the 1980s and 1990s, where original driveways are cracked, stained and often too narrow for today's trucks. Farther north, newer subdivisions have younger slabs that owners want to extend for an extra car, a work van or an RV. We do a lot of both here: full replacements in the older blocks and add-ons up north.

What Deer Valley driveways need

Caliche is the ground story across most of Deer Valley. That cemented lime layer can sit just under the topsoil or a few feet down, and it traps water so the dirt above it goes soft. A driveway poured on that soft layer settles at the joints. When we dig, we take out the soft soil, break out any caliche sitting high, and build back with compacted aggregate base and rebar on chairs before the concrete goes in.

Deer Valley is inside the City of Phoenix, so the apron at the street is poured 6 inches thick to city standards, usually with a city permit we handle. Many of the newer subdivisions have an HOA, and we prepare the layout and finish sheet for review. Wide streets here make access for the truck easy. Summer pours start early, and we schedule around storms. Call (602) 773-1313 for a free estimate.

What’s included

Every Deer Valley driveway we pour starts with the ground under it, caliche desert floor here, and the same list of work goes into the quote:

  • New concrete driveways
  • Driveway replacement and tear-out
  • Extensions, widening and side parking
  • RV and trailer parking pads
  • Stamped, colored and exposed-aggregate finishes
  • Aprons at the street, with the city permit where one is needed
  • Caliche, fill and soil checked before forming
  • Compacted aggregate base, deeper where you park heavy
  • Slope that sends water away from the garage
  • Control joints laid out before the pour
  • A pour timed and cured for the heat
The ground under Deer Valley

Caliche desert floor

Gravelly desert soil on the fans and terraces of the Valley floor, often with a layer of caliche, soil cemented hard by calcium carbonate or silica, anywhere from a few inches to a few feet down.

Dig to firm ground, break out caliche that sits high in the base and haul it off the site, bring in aggregate base compacted in lifts, and slope the slab and the grade so roof and sprinkler water run away from it and off the hardpan.

What fails here first

  • Slabs sunk or cracked beside sprinkler beds and downspouts
  • Water standing along an edge for days after a storm
  • Corners and edges dropped below the next panel
  • Cracks that keep opening over the same low spot

Deer Valley driveway questions

Straight answers

Across Deer Valley, from 1980s and 1990s streets to the newer subdivisions farther north, Sam The Concrete Man North Phoenix pours driveways with its own crews. The gravelly ground often carries a caliche layer, so we dig to firm soil, remove any that sits high and build on aggregate base compacted in lifts. Aprons, RV pads and side widenings are poured thicker for heavier loads, and street-end work is checked with the City of Phoenix.
