Concrete Driveway and Patio Contractor in Surprise, AZ
Newer homes, sandy ground, and a crew that compacts it right.
Maricopa County · River and wash alluvium
Most houses in Surprise went up after 1995, so the driveways and back slabs here are usually builder originals somewhere in their second or third decade. Homeowners call us to widen a two-car driveway, add a side pad for a trailer, or finally turn a bare backyard into a stamped patio with a pad for a pergola. We cover the eastern part of the city, the side closest to Phoenix, about 22 miles from our office.
Working in Surprise
Most Surprise homes were built after 1995, and the eastern part of the city, closest to Phoenix, is inside our 25-mile radius.
The ground under Surprise is river and wash alluvium, silt and sand that drains well but settles if it was never compacted. We compact it in lifts, pour a thicker section where a truck or RV will park, and keep roof and yard runoff away from the slab edges. The City of Surprise handles permits, your HOA may want to see the layout and color first, and we put that package together for you.
River and wash alluvium
Layered silt, sand and gravel laid down by the Salt River and the desert washes, across the flood plains and alluvial fans of the central and west Valley.
Most river and wash soil drains well and swells very little. Its problem is settlement: loose, dry silt and sand that was never compacted packs down when it gets wet or carries a load, so slabs sink at corners and along tire lines. Close to a wash, monsoon runoff can also cut away the soil at the edge of a slab.
Compaction done in lifts at the right moisture, with loose or soft soil dug out and replaced, a thicker section anywhere a truck, trailer or RV will park, and grading that keeps runoff off the slab and out from under it. Washes and drainage easements stay open.
