Concrete Driveway and Patio Contractor in Camelback East, Phoenix, AZ

Canal-side streets and Camelback views, with slabs graded to drain.

Phoenix · River and wash alluvium

Camelback East Village is the City of Phoenix village on the south side of Camelback Mountain. It takes in older streets along the Arizona Canal along with the Arcadia and Biltmore areas, so housing runs from modest ranch homes to large rebuilt properties. The concrete work varies just as widely, from a single step pad to a front-to-back package with driveway, walkways and a pool deck.

About Camelback East

Working in Camelback East

Camelback East Village is the City of Phoenix village south of Camelback Mountain, taking in older streets along the Arizona Canal and the Arcadia and Biltmore areas.

Most of the village sits on river and wash alluvium. Silt and sand like this drain quickly, but they settle when water runs under a slab or when the fill was never compacted. Near the canal and on low lots, we pay close attention to where runoff goes after a storm and grade the concrete to carry it toward the street. Permits and aprons follow City of Phoenix standards. The ground under Camelback East

River and wash alluvium

Layered silt, sand and gravel laid down by the Salt River and the desert washes, across the flood plains and alluvial fans of the central and west Valley.

Most river and wash soil drains well and swells very little. Its problem is settlement: loose, dry silt and sand that was never compacted packs down when it gets wet or carries a load, so slabs sink at corners and along tire lines. Close to a wash, monsoon runoff can also cut away the soil at the edge of a slab.

How we build in Camelback East

Compaction done in lifts at the right moisture, with loose or soft soil dug out and replaced, a thicker section anywhere a truck, trailer or RV will park, and grading that keeps runoff off the slab and out from under it. Washes and drainage easements stay open.
