Concrete Driveway and Patio Contractor in Arcadia, Phoenix, AZ
Older Arcadia ranch homes, new driveways and patios under Camelback.
Phoenix · River and wash alluvium
Arcadia spreads out below Camelback Mountain, and half its homes were built before 1966. Many of those ranch houses still have narrow original driveways, and a lot of owners are widening them, adding a side pad or pouring a bigger patio for the backyard under the citrus trees. Remodels and rebuilds are common too, and those usually call for a full tear-out of the old flatwork around the house.
Working in Arcadia
Arcadia sits at the foot of Camelback Mountain, and half of its homes were built before 1966.
The soil under most Arcadia lots is silt and sand washed down over time. It drains well, but it settles if it was never compacted or if irrigation water keeps getting under the slab. We compact the base in lifts, thicken the section where trucks park and slope everything so runoff moves away from the house. Arcadia is in the City of Phoenix, so the apron at the street is built to city standards. Call (602) 773-1313 for a free estimate.
River and wash alluvium
Layered silt, sand and gravel laid down by the Salt River and the desert washes, across the flood plains and alluvial fans of the central and west Valley.
Most river and wash soil drains well and swells very little. Its problem is settlement: loose, dry silt and sand that was never compacted packs down when it gets wet or carries a load, so slabs sink at corners and along tire lines. Close to a wash, monsoon runoff can also cut away the soil at the edge of a slab.
Compaction done in lifts at the right moisture, with loose or soft soil dug out and replaced, a thicker section anywhere a truck, trailer or RV will park, and grading that keeps runoff off the slab and out from under it. Washes and drainage easements stay open.
